Going to Great Lengths: Chapel length vs Cathedral Veil

So you think you want a long veil to go with your wedding dress but don't quite understand the difference between a chapel length vs. cathedral veil?

You're not alone. In fact, many of our brides use the term "chapel" and "cathedral" veil interchangeably.

To help you get the facts straight, I've written this blog to highlight the main differences between these two veil types and give you the confidence to pick the right long veil for your bridal gown, regardless of the name.

What's a chapel length veil?

A true chapel length veil measures 85 to 95 inches long. Depending on a bride's height including heels, this timeless long veil option will either touch or puddle on the floor.

Modern minimalist brides tend to prefer the effortless chic and unencumbered quality of this "petite" long veil as compared to the longer and grander cathedral veil. It is way more manageable and makes a perfect pairing for a fit and flare or floor length gown with little to no train.

What's a cathedral veil?

"Regal" and "dramatic" are the two words that come to mind to describe a bridal look featuring this type of veil. In fact, a cathedral veil is considerably more formal and perfectly suited for grand venues with long aisles such as churches and cathedrals- just as the name suggests!

Ranging in length from 108 to 120 inches, it is made to extend way beyond the train of a wedding gown and is often chosen by brides looking to add length to the overall silhouette of their bridal ensemble. As an added bonus, it can make a bride appear taller and slimmer.

What other "long veil" options are available?

Waltz Length Veil: At 54" long, this length usually hits in-between the knee and mid-calf. A design that's too heavy at the bottom can really interfere with your overall silhouette and cut the line of your look, so opt for a dimensional cut that's a bit tapered for a lengthening effect.

Stunning with a fit and flare or mermaid dress & a great option to keep wearing while dancing.
