Recently, we were invited to take part in a WedLuxe Magazine photo shoot designed to showcase a modern interpretation of romance. For this black, white and gold wedding shoot, Shelby Pennington, owner of Shelby Pennington Events, took her inspiration from one of Jane Austen’s most iconic couples, Lizzy and Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice. “Using black and white, gold accents, and classical décor, we created a romantic and classic creative shoot that transports you to the estate of modern-day Mr. Darcy,” shares Shelby.

A Modern Bride's Take on Classic Black and White
Although it's expected that the groom will don a black tuxedo and the bride will wear white, look for ways to create drama and sophistication. To pick up on the clean lines of our bride's wedding dress, we designed a bespoke French net headpiece with long detachable streamers in the place of a veil.
To complete the look, we paired it with custom-made delicate, crystal floral pearl drop earrings. A flawless bridal beauty look of nude cheeks and lips with dramatic eyes & polished up-do finished our bride's style to perfection.
For our bride's reception look, we lightened things up with a chic, flocked dot face veil with flirty silk floral detail, perfect for a garden party on a sunny afternoon. The feminine, slightly whimsical look was a perfect complement to the bride's effortless waves.
The earrings were switched out to crystal and pearl chandeliers for a more festive, relaxed vibe.
Accents of Gold & Graphic Details
A stunning black, white and gold wedding cake perched upon a polished gold cake plate looks like a work of art, not just dessert. This bold, beautiful confection is a real showstopper, accentuates the theme and makes for great photos! The bold graphic rose floral details and angular tiers accentuate the modern take on a timeless black and white wedding theme.
An Elegant Take on Place Cards
Crystal champagne flutes decked out in black ribbon with white name cards and black script add a touch of elegance and personalize the event. A lovely gesture to greet guests and handle seating assignments in a unique way.
Modern Romantic Black and White Tablescape
When it comes to table settings, it's all in the details. Think white tablecloth, white napkins, lush white florals, white candles on gold candlesticks, black chargers, white dinner plates, gold cutlery, crystal & gold trim wine glasses and black water glasses. We're confident Mr. Darcy would approve! Classic opulence meets modern style with chic menu cards stamped with monogram black wax seals - love!
A White Vintage Getaway Car
In keeping with the black and white wedding theme in touch with a modern romantic's sensibilities- a great getaway car. This luxe white vintage car was the perfect exit plan for our hero and heroine, after, of course, the ultimate photo op wedding portrait next to the car overflowing with a cascade of roses.
