8 Ideas to Add Ballet-Inspired Details to Your Wedding

Have you ever noticed how the ballet tells an entire story without speaking a single word? From the character development to the climax, to the resolution - it draws us in and we're captivated by what we see, as opposed to what we hear. A pinnacle of romance and elegance, the ballet makes us fall in love with the love story being played out before us.

Picture this: It’s your wedding day. You’re walking down the aisle towards the love of your life, and until it’s time to say your vows, your guests won’t hear a word from you. What type of mood do you want to evoke? What elements of your wedding are going to make an impact? If you’re looking for a Gizelle-worthy level of romance on your big day, keep reading. We’ve gathered 8 details inspired by the ballet that will showcase your personal style and love for romance without having to say a word.

Idea# 1

Nothing says “ballet” like a tutu! Beloved throughout the fashion world, tulle skirts are light and dreamy – the ultimate in romance. It’s so easy to imagine a bride dancing gracefully during the reception to a carefully selected “first dance” song (we recommend a good stretch before attempting any plié’s) while her tulle gown flows around her.

On a recent ballet-inspired styled shoot organized by Party With Chloe, beautiful dresses by Wins Designs evoked an ethereal vibe. The flowing fabric, so light and airy, will make any bride feel like the goddess she is!

From the obvious white to the more whimsical blush and blue, each tulle dress conveys elegance and romance.

As cute as they are, ballet flats offer little to no support, and would prevent even a prima ballerina from dancing the night away at her reception! Designed by a professional dancer, Angela Nuran’s Audrey Flats will give the support you need without compromising on the sleek and minimal design. All Angela Nuran shoes are designed specifically for brides to wear on their wedding day, allowing them to dance their best regardless of their skill level.

If you’ve been coveting a specific shoe for your white carpet debut and wedding photos, consider changing into a pair of Angela Nuran heels for the reception. You’ll be able to focus on judging (or winning!) the impromptu dance battle instead of the pain of your feet crammed into a stiletto for 10 hours.

Idea# 3

As much as we love a good topknot, it can sometimes feel more “rigid” than “romantic”. UNO JO bridal hair created the ultimate Pinterest-worthy hairstyles on this shoot, with soft, romantic tresses on display.

We are especially obsessed with how perfectly our hairpins and Marisol Vine were worked with the loose boho-inspired braid. These hair pins work with any hairdo because they can be styled in clusters for a dramatic look, or sprinkled throughout as we see here to evoke a softer, whimsical feeling.

If you’re looking for something a little more styled but still romantic, combine an updo like this with our malleable hairpieces. Your hairdresser can mold it to adapt to your hairstyle or it can be doubled-up for a more dramatic effect, as shown here.

What makeup technique says "romance" to you? We believe First Brush Makeup hit the nail square on the head when it comes to romantic bridal beauty.n all three looks, the model had dewy, clear skin (read more about how to get camera-ready skin here) with soft pink on the cheeks and lips.

This natural makeup look complements the dreamy bridal style instead of being overpowering. “Effortless” is the name of the game if you want to portray an elegant romance at your wedding…no one needs to know how early your makeup artist arrived to help you achieve the look!

      Idea# 5

As you choose your wedding or reception location, think about what type of emotion you want to evoke from your guests. A space with character, such as the Berkeley Bicycle Club says so much that you’ll be able to incorporate minimal décor while making a big impact.

We love the rich wood details on the wall and floor, and how the soft colour palette pops against it. The perfect mix of masculine and feminine!

If romance is key at your wedding, take a nod to the ballet by incorporating gold and blush hues and keep it all together with a beautiful ribbon. The gold wax stamp is our favourite detail of this suite, suggesting an air of elegance and sophistication.

Your invitation suite is your guest’s first glimpse into the overall mood at your wedding. We spoke here about how important it is to put extra thought into this detail, as it is a great place to include your personal style.

Our ballet cut veil owes its name to the skirts ballerinas wear during practice. Otherwise known as a “drop” or “circle” cut, this elegant shape drapes with ease. Worn as a blusher veil, it elegantly falls over the face and shoulders for a sheer, dramatic look; but also looks great worn back for a light, pouf-free effect with a little body at the bottom.

If you loved how Kate Middleton’s veil draped and beautifully framed her face, you might want to consider this airy style for yourself. You'll love how the blusher will allow you to have two very different looks before and after the ceremony.

            Chantilly Lace Wedding Veil

In keeping with the blush and gold colour theme, you might want to consider a veil with metallics in the lace. The veil used in this shoot has light, Chantilly lace detail along the edge. We love how the light catches it in the photos and helps create depth. You’ll definitely want to include your veil in your wedding photos to capture the romance of your complete look!

            Idea# 8

As previously mentioned, a soft colour palette including dusty pink is evocative of the romantic setting created by the ballet. You could try a veil with a hint of blush, or you can work the colour into your bridesmaid’s dresses, flowers or décor.

Throw in some pops of gold, which will complement all your soft pink hues. Bloom Cake Co. even worked the colour palate into the dessert table! The tasty treats look too good to eat decorated with flowers and ribbon.
